Rent scooter offsite, the Disney scooters are expensive and hard to maneuver
Check with several companies, search “Scooter Rentals in Orlando”, prices can vary from $199.00 to $300.00 for 10 days. I have rented from several different companies, depending on the price. Companies are great if there is a problem, they will generally replace the scooter ASAP.
The size of the scooter and battery are based on the weight of the rider.
Ask about the length of battery life, some last 5 hours, while others last 12 hours.
Make sure you can get a full refund if you need to cancel your order.
Get a scooter with 3 wheels, the 4 wheeled ones are hard to drive, sort of like driving a tank. The 3 wheeled ones are easy to turn, especially getting on and off the bus, and going through the que line.
Scooters are delivered and picked up from the lobby of your resort. You need to meet the representative there. You tell them the time you want it delivered and picked up and I have found them to be very prompt.
Be sure to plug the scooter in every night to recharge the battery!
Even though you are careful when using the scooter around the parks, people don’t see you, and frequently will ‘walk’ into you. You need to be observant and you can adjust your speed to match those who are walking with you. There is a basket on the front which is great for holding all sorts of things. Getting onto the bus is simple and if you have difficulty, the driver will usually assist you. You and your party will be the first on the bus, but the last one off.
I never have had a problem with the rides. People with mobility scooters do not use the DAS pass. You just wait in the normal line and most rides are easily accessible. For some rides, Pirates, Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, you will transfer to a wheelchair to go through the line, there are many waiting for just that purpose. Some rides you may enter through a different entrance, Big Thunder Mountain and Splash, you enter through the exit where there are no stairs.
Don’t hesitate to rent a scooter if you feel you need one. With my bad knees, it makes it possible for me to enjoy the magic of Disney, instead of being in pain while in the parks.
